First responders in Emmaus Borough were called to United World Travel Service at 1031 Chestnut Street for a reported car accident just after 12:30 p.m., officials said.

On scene, the building’s facade was badly damaged but stable, police said. There was one person in the building at the time of the crash, but neither they nor the driver was injured, authorities added.

In the parking lot, investigators found the driver had struck the building’s gas meter.

Police and firefighters evacuated six nearby buildings until utility company UGI could be reached to shut off the gas main in the street, according to the department.

Traffic was diverted away from Chestnut Street and power was shut off in the area while officials fixed the leak, authorities said.

Investigators said the accident was caused by a “medical issue” and that no charges will be filed.
